Toe Tapping Trouble

I never fully understood the function of one of these until yesterday.
The humble "pooper scooper."
Now I understand that it's a necessity!

It's been years since Frodo buried a poop, so I'd forgotten about the digging and flinging of cat litter about. And of course, Kitten B copies everything that Kitten A does. Sometimes at the same time...

They really don't fit in the tray together. But they do it anyway.

The Kittens have been living with me for two full days now and have still not been named, I like to wait to see an animals character before they are officially labelled.

Character is something that they are not lacking in.

Kitten B has discovered my toes. He think's they're brilliant. Especially when they wiggle. Regardless of whether they are encased in a sock or not. He especially likes to tap the big one on the right foot. Not sure why he is obsessed with that particular toe.

But it's okay because I love playing with their toe-beans too!
However, Kitten A's toe-tapping antics are not so endearing.

I'd only been up for about 5 minutes and he followed me into the bathroom where the litter tray is located. He then got in and tapped a poop. We locked eyes. He tapped another clump of litter out of the tray and then s t r u t t e d out.

Kitten B came to see what he'd done. He then proceeded to tap the soiled litter.

Within 30 seconds of me changing the litter, Kitten A was peeing. Kitten B then squeezed his lemon, just to copy his brother. The pooper scooper was of no use.

I then went to the toilet myself. They stared at me.

I guess that's only fair.

Now, I've never needed to entertain two young cats before. I wouldn't say I was unprepared but I was certainly underprepared!

I rushed out to buy some more toys. This is the play tube.

The play tube is a pop-up tube that cost me less than £5 and has caused hours of noisy delight. Kitten A and B enjoy pouncing on each other and any person who may walk past. They particularly like it if you roll a ball inside.

Of course, it hasn't been all fun and games.
I spent a majority of yesterday combing Kitten A.

Like any rescued animals, there is a risk and you must be prepared for unexpected extras. The shelter flead and wormed the kittens before they were released to us (the reason for the mountain of poo on Friday) and I did find one living flea.

Poor Kitten A was covered in flea dust and very itchy. Luckily he enjoyed a groom. Kitten B was more reluctant but when I was able to check, had much less of a problem.

My dog is all up-to-date with her worming and flea prevention.

We very nearly had integration this morning too! A bit unfortunate as my Dog's leg is bothering her today.

This is her "What if the Kittens are there?" look.

They came down the stairs, mostly because Kitten A had spied a fun looking thing to play with over the bannister. It went well actually. My Dog did her usual..."here it comes" look and stared at the stairs.

Kitten A watched her but decided the fun thing was more important. My Dog walked to the bottom landing with the Boss of the house and I sat on the stairs with Kitten A. Kitten B joined us, worried that he was missing out.

Kitten A started to p u r r as I petted him and reassured all the animals in the vicinity that we were all friends.

Eventually the cats played with each other and ignored my Dog (she can't go upstairs because of her legs) and there was no hissing or growling! So that encourages me!

But these little guys have been relatively good to be honest! They use their dirt tray, they are friendly towards us and it's obvious they're bonded, so I'm glad we didn't split them up! I just need to get some weight on them!

However we did have our first kitten related accident this afternoon.

I was sitting downstairs when I heard a SMASH from upstairs. It was so loud I thought the sink had smashed in half.

No broken sink.

More importantly, no broken kittens!

They'd pushed an ornamental shell from the windowsill into the bathtub.

The windowsill has now been kitten-proofed.

The shell, surprisingly, survived...
